KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan's effort to qualify
for the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup encountered a severe blow
Monday when the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deducted three
points from them and declared that their victory over Selangor on June
27 was invalid.

FAM's local competition committee chairman Datuk Che Mat Jusoh told
Bernama, the decision was taken after it was found that Negeri Sembilan
had not fielded an Under 21 player for 90 minutes of regulation time as
stipulated by the FAM.

Che Mat said during the match, which Negeri Sembilan won 3-0 at the Shah
Alam Stadium, the team had substituted an Under 21 player with an import
player.

"After a deliberation, we decided to give Selangor the victory with a
3-0 scoreline," he said when contacted.

Following the decision, Selangor moved to the top of Group A with 16
points while Negeri Sembilan was fourth with 10 points.

Both teams have three matches remaining.

The top two teams in each of the three groups qualify for the
quarter-finals while the other two teams would come from the best third
finishers between Group A and C, and between Group B and C.

Meanwhile, Che Mat, who is also FAM vice-president said a seminar would
be held on July 21-22 to discuss problems faced by state teams.

"The seminar will be an avenue for them to discuss problems including
the league format, financial, sponsorship and other matters," he said.
